All Hallow's Eve

A Happy Halloween was had by all!
We had a little neighborhood gathering prior to trick or treating. The weather was fantastic - just a cool fall evening. All the boys enjoyed playing, but little Madison (a neighbor in Austin's kindergarten class could not be convinced to join the photo with all the rowdy boys).
Aidan was a sargent in full camo. Austin was going to be a bat (and was earlier in the week), but his game day decision was Boba Fett. Paige was a pumpkin.

The boys had a lot of fun trick or treating with friends. Aidan lagged a bit behind the group as he was interested in looking at every piece of candy as it was acquired and he also followed directions and did not run across any lawns, but instead used the sometimes winding sidewalks.
My favorite haunts in the neighborhood are the stiltman's house and the house with the haunted castle blow-up that you have to walk through.

Out of all the candy, Aidan said the mint (a red & white dinner mint) was his favorite. Of course, that turned into drama when 10 minutes later his brother ate it and there was only one! Austin's favorite is the lollipop, followed closely by Hershey's chocolate.

Little Pumpkin

Our little pumpkin enjoyed her first trip to the local pumpkin patch at Halls' Farm. The boys picked out pumpkins, traversed the corn maze with Grandpa and climbed up the slide over and over again. The pumpkin patch has grown in popularity over the last few years and this year their parking area was full and on many evenings, there was traffic getting in and out. I would guess there were 200-300 folks there at any given time.

Paige had her first tooth pop through this week and the one next to it is just below the surface as well. She is trying out her Johnny Jump Up this week. She is interested, but also seems to have scared herself by moving around too much. I think she will really like it ultimately since she enjoys standing on laps.

Weekend Warriors

Or at least that was the plan. We had so many activities planned, but one by one, they fell off the list. Had to reschedule vet visit because Ricardo was too upset, no baseball due to saturated fields, no hockey skating lessons due to a figure skating competition and the list went on. Instead, the kids spent most of their time playing with friends, we had a couple nice dinners at the house with friends and family and we got a few tasks done around the house, including breaking out the indoor and outdoor halloween decorations.
Aidan & Ed
Ed and Aidan got to watch some playoff baseball. This was the last game in the metrodome, as the Yankees beat the Twins for the third and final game of the series. Go Yankees!

Austin, Clifford & Jack-o-lantern

Austin worked with me on completing his Clifford the Big Red Dog - costume decorating. Austin decided to make Clifford a vampire - but what he really meant was "Frankenstein". We have an inflatable Frankenstein in our front yard that Austin has come to love (after overcoming a natural fear of large blow-up yard art).

Warning - cute kid here

And Paige, she just enjoyed the cool fall weather and car trips to church, the car dealership and Lowe's.

Paige at 3 months

Paige likes her fingers and thumbs. She has discovered her hands and enjoys interlocking them and looking at them or just sucking on them.

Paige is grabbing at things. Here she grabbeb a ring in her crib.

Paige doesn't particularly like tummy time yet, but she is staring to raise her head when placed on her tummy.

First Day of School 2009

Austin is a Kindergartener. His teacher is Mrs. Gray (who also taught Aidan). I met with his teacher after his individual assessment and she started by saying that Austin was reluctant to talk with her. I said he was reluctant to talk with me too - because we are girls! Austin will warm up to kindergarten. In fact, now he is counting down the days until he gets to stay in class a full day.

Aidan is in 2nd grade. He is very independent, however he doesn't want to make a mistake. He headed off to his classroom by himself but a few minutes later was tapping me saying all the doors were closed and he couldn't find his room. He got distracted by the utility closet and adult bathroom doors - his room door was in fact open and he had friends calling him to sit next to them when he walked in the room.

Mary Janes

Mommy said that Grammy just loves the mary jane shoes. And since we got a whole stash of mary jane looking socks from my cousin, Nevie, I had to get dressed up to show them off!
Hi, Grammy. Hope you like my shoes, I mean socks.

Ah, hello Mother, can a girl get a little help here? I've fallen and I can't get up.

World War II

The armies of World War II are marching across our living room floor. There are Lincoln Log forts being pummeled by tanks and machine guns and rocks from catapults. It took quite some time (nice quite time, I might add) to set up all the forts, flags and men. Austin was the USA and Aidan was Germany. Of course, now that Aidan has discovered that Germany lost and the Allies won, he wants a different flag - Britain's will do.

Once the battle began, then World War III also broke out as Austin didn't have the right tank and he wasn't allowed to just drive over Aidan's troops. Austin eventually quit playing so Aidan knocked down Austin's old fort which created more drama. The suggestion that they both be on the same team sounded good, but in reality was impossible for them to execute as then there was no one to manage the enemy troops and they couldn't agree on tactics.

Aidan had lots of questions, including do they start a war by saying "ready, set, go". The most amusing question was, "Do the soldiers in wars get a lunch break?" I explained that they used to long long ago, but now there are surprise attacks that could happen over lunch time. Aidan responded with the quote of the day, "I don't want to be a soldier if I might get killed while eating my lunch. Lunch is one of my most favorite things." Naturally, there were follow-up questions like, do they get to pick what they eat for lunch and do they get dessert?

Father's Day

Dad and the Wevodau Trio

This was Paige's first Father's Day celebration. It was filled with swimming, video gaming, bocci ball playing, and a little Wii action at the Grandparents abode. And for Paige, eating, sleeping, crying, diaper changing, etc.

At Home

Austin's thinking, "Well, I guess she's here to stay"

Austin continues to show a growing interest in his little sister. Today I asked if he could give Paige her pacifier. He clarified that I meant the "little, green thingy". Then he asked if I could show him how. So today was Austin's lesson in pacifier insertion. Then he wanted to watch Paige get her bath. He seemed a little jealous that she got to take a bath in a whale shaped tub and in the kitchen sink and then he lost interest and went outside to climb on our mailbox to wait for his friend to pick him up for VBS.

The Agony of Life

You probably thought life would be easy eating and sleeping all day. It's not.

Our New Baby

Paige Golden Wevodau was born at 12:19 P.M., Tuesday, June 9, 2009. She weighed in at 8 pounds, 11 ounces. Length: 20 inches. She stayed wide awake for nearly six full hours after her birth before deciding to take a long nap.

The Winning Season

Aidan played for the Orioles in the 7 and under coach pitch baseball this spring. His team went undefeated in the regular season at 13-0-1 and then won 3 games in the post-season tourny to take home that trophy too. He may never have so much fun again, but for now it has inspired him to want to play baseball in the fall too!

Austin's Preschool Graduation

Another phase of Austin's life has come to a conclusion. From 3 months to 5 years he has attended Primrose School at Hall-Johnson in Grapevine. On May 29th, he graduated from Pre-Kindergarten!

Really? Do you have to take my picture, Mommy?

This is fun!

Field Day

Aidan was a little sick early in the week, and was greatly concerned about missing Friday's Field Day at school. He made a quick recovery and was well rested for the big day of "Gator Games". The 1st grade classes competed against each other. The games were very creative and the kids had a blast. Aidan's favorite was the age old classic - Tug of War.

Let's Play Ball

Okay... it wasn't my intention to wait 2 months between postings, but alas it is what it is. Most of my excuse is that I missplaced my camera, but my husband found it after a deep cleaning of the family van! It was in a seat back pocket and once he found it I did remember putting it there.
The boys are two months into their t-ball and baseball season. Austin is certainly having fun playing t-ball, if for no other reason than the snacks. He plays on the Rivercats. Funny thing is, Aidan's first team was the Riverdogs. So I guess I can truly say at times that our kids fight like cats and dogs.

Focus! (photo by Aidan)

Aidan plays for the Orioles and has recently enjoyed a promotion to the infield, playing pitcher or the hot corner, when not in right field backing up virtually all throws to first base (which he is quite good at). Aidan plays coach-pitch and usually goes 3-4 or 4-5 each game. His team is doing very well and is in trophy contention with 10 games played, 4 to go.

Getting ready to slap one down the thirdbase line

Funny story... Since Aidan is on the Orioles, we watched a little bit of a game on TV with the Rangers and Orioles. Aidan asked if it was a cardinal on the Orioles hat! Nope, it's an Oriole - a black and orange bird. It wasn't 10 seconds later when Austin asked if it was a cardinal on their hat... Nope, it's an Oriole. Aside from the fact that our boys obviously only know the name of one bird, what I find particularly amusing is that Aidan has an Oriole on his team hat and never asked what it was prior to seeing the big leaguers with the same hat!
